BEE FEST

There was a hive of activity at The Chantry Centre, Andover on Friday and Saturday,12 and 13 August, when a two-day Bee Fest was organised.

In an effort to help highlight the plight of the Honey bee, as well as showcasing the Centre’s new five hive apiary, two family fun days were organised and included craft activities, a Honey Hunt, giveaways as well as a series of informal presentations about the Chantry Centre Bees. As part of these activities, visitors were able to see bees at work, as an observation hive was set up in Chantry Court in the Centre.

The ‘Bee Team’ helped children make their own candles using real bees wax,
invited them to go on a Honey Hunt around the Centre, locating special Bee-themed clue posters displayed in the windows of four shops. Mini jars of honey, donated by Rowse Honey were given to the first 200 children completing the Honey Hunt along with British Beekeeper Association booklets .

The event was part of the Centre’s ongoing programme of eco activities and highlighting the plight of British honey bees.
